Halau News:

Update 3-30-11:

Aloha Ohana!

I hope everyone is doing great!  I just wanted to remind everyone of the date for our upcoming Revue Show.

-Friday May 27th, 2011 5pm-9pm- Revue Dress Rehearsal
We'll be rehearsing everything for the big show, as well as checking costumes. Make sure to be there!!
-Saturday May 28th, 2011  6:30pm- 5th Annual Polynesian Dance Revue Show

As we are starting to really gear up for our big Revue Show it becomes more and more important that all of our dancers attend as many classes as possible.  Please show up on time and ready to go so we can make the most out of each lesson.  Every class has several new dances that require lots of practice.

-Costumes
It is also time to start worry about costuming!  :-)  Most classes have at least a few new costumes this year, and starting this week and next week, I'll begin to send home fabric and patterns home with the dancers.  Please take a look at them right away.  For those of you who might be new to the Halau, I do my best to make sure I send home the dancers with all the materials needed to make their costumes, as well as patterns/instructions.  But it is up to you to actually make the costumes.  We need all of our dancers to start working on their costumes now, so that we don't run out of time before the Revue Show.  If you have any questions about any of the costumes, please let me know right away so that I can you help with them!

-Important Phone Numbers

You are always welcome to call me if you have any questions.  I've also listed 2 of our primary "costume makers".  They've done a great job for us over the past several years, but they do get busy!  If you need their help with costumes, please call them ASAP so they'll have time to get your costumes ready in time for the show!

2011 Revue!:

Aloha Ohana!

I hope everyone is doing great!  So the date is set, our big annual Revue Show is going to be held on Saturday, May 28th at 6:30pm. We'll have our usual Dress Rehearsal the night before; Friday the 27th from 5:00-9:00pm.

As far as costumes go, please try on any "old" costumes to make sure they still fit. Especially the Maori dress (the one used for poi balls) Over the next few weeks I'll be working out the details for any and all new costumes we'll be using.

This year, the SDA Art Club will be our "Sponsor Organization" and they promise to help us with the event!  This is a great thing since they'll be helping us with new background paintings and selling tickets. Hope you can all be there and remember to ask me if you have any questions or concerns!

Update 1-16-11:

Happy New Year to everyone!

Classes have started up again like normal and we're all working hard to prepare for our upcoming Revue! The tentative date for the Revue is Saturday, May 28th. Keep in mind that this date is not set in stone and may change. The Revue is going to be moved forward and extra half hour this year so the Revue will be starting at 6:30pm and go until 9:00pm.

For those of you that may not know about our annual Revue, every year Ke Polani Ohana E Kai performs at San Dieguto High School to raise money for the Allen Family Memorial Scholarship and the SDA Art Club.

The dress rehearsal for the students will be held the Friday night before the Revue like normal; May 27th. Please keep this date free; its really important that students get a chance to practice on the stage we will be performing on and its hard to work out kinks in the dances with students missing.
